NovaBiotics’ cysteamine pipeline continues to advance through its collaboration with the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine (LSTM).
Grant funding from the Medical Research Council has been secured to investigate how cysteamine can boost the immune systems’ ability to clear Tuberculosis infections.
NovaBiotics and LSTM have already demonstrated cysteamine’s ability to improve the effects of antibiotic therapy against TB and other mycobacteria.
TB kills more than one million people each year and resistance to the antibiotics used to treat this infection continues to be a major issue. New therapies for TB and other mycobacterial infections are urgently needed, and this project builds on NovaBiotics’ success with cysteamine for other chronic and acute respiratory diseases.
